Adobe's Buzzword: reinventing the weel

Stefanos Karagos | November 8, 2007

It is a phenomenon of recent years, that many big companies with very good offline products, not to have find yet their online way...
One of these companies is Adobe, which some days ago announced Buzzword.
An online Word ;-)

After 30 minutes using Buzzword, I have to say that this service has a long way ahead to be a daily online tool and even more development, in order to compete direct Google and its Docs.

Even the Buzzword allows users to use the font Myriad Pro which is a unicode font and the same time the service itself doesn't uses it!
Actually Buzzword does not support Unicode fonts, it's too stupid...

Could anyone in Adobe think InDesign without Unicode fonts support?? Ehhh?

Hey Stefanos,

We're actually redoing the font engine in the Flash Player for version 10. When it comes out, it will be easier to create your own fonts and we're hoping a lot of people in the community do just that. We're planning to expose some low level font APIs and then build support on top of that.

It should make it easier to support unicode fonts, left-to-right, and anything else you'd need.

Hi Rayan,
I'm very glad to hear that your are redoing the font engine.
The most important feature is the native support of Unicode when you have to build "international" apps like Buzzword...

Thank you for your response
